For a cataract patient, the light of the sun or lamp may appear too bright or glaring. Even when you are driving at night, headlights or street lights will cause more glare than it used to be before. Normal colors you see everyday may not appear as bright and clear as they once did.
Types of Cataract
- Subcapsular Cataract – Occurs at the back of the eye lens.
- Nuclear Cataract – Forms in the central zone (nucleus) of the eye lens.
- Cortical Cataract – Affects the periphery of the eye lens.
You experience symptoms based on the type of cataract you have. Some patients experience symptoms of cataract very late. For example, when you have a nuclear cataract, it brings a temporary sharpness in your near vision. But, this vision is short-lived and disappears as cataract increases. On the other hand, a subcapsular cataract does not show any symptoms initially. Once the cataract is well-developed, patients start to experience its symptoms.
Risk factors that cause cataract are:
- UV rays from sunlight or other sources

- Previous eye surgery

- Family History
- Diabetes
- Obesity
