FESS (Sinus) Surgery in New Delhi

Purposes of a FESS are as listed below:

• Polyp removal - Growths inside nose that are most of the times benign, are removed in course of a FESS.
• Tissue cleansing - This procedure drains out infected tissues inside nose and mucous membrane and hence, leads to inner cleansing.
• A foreign substance - Foreign substances stuck in nasal opening that obstruct the inner lining are removed during Sinus surgery.
• Proper drainage of mucus - Sinus surgery enlarges pathways inside nose that drain mucus and prevent its buildup.

FESS commences after doctor administers an anesthetic to the person. Further, an endoscope is used to examine the hollow cavity of sinus and to see what is blocking the openings. Other surgical instruments are inserted through the endoscope to extract the blockages inside.

Post operative care to be taken after undergoing a FESS for a few days post surgery:

• Elevate your head - While sleeping, use pillows to prop your head everyday; at least for a week, to reduce chances of swelling.
• Avoid exhaustive activities - Always try to avoid strenuous and tiring activities.
• Avoid bending - Avoid bending forward giving a jerk to your head.
• Changing pads - Make sure to change the gauze drip pads after regular intervals of time.
• Avoid nose sprays - Nasal steroid sprays should be avoided for a couple of weeks post surgery.

However, you need to alert your doctor if you experience high fever, swollen eyes, intense headache, bleeding from nose and diarrhea.
