A hernia is a formation happening between tissues that hold the muscles together. It can happen in people of both genders. Femoral and umbilical hernia are specific to women. Whereas, inguinal hernia is specific to male community. Surgery is recommended if the hernia shows persistent symptoms, or the symptoms have capability to develop into serious complications. Inguinal hernia symptoms are as follows:

• Formation of lump in your groin
• Bulges in pubic area
• Swollen testicles
• Experiencing aching sensation while coughing and bending down
• Pain experienced while lifting heavy objects

What happens after surgery:

• Post operation, you will be admitted to a recovery room and kept under observation for few hours till you regain consciousness.
• Once you regain consciousness and are able to regain your sense of control, you will be allowed to go home.
• You are bound to experience soreness; mostly for a couple of a days post surgery.
• Try and walk around post surgery as that will help you recover sooner.
• You will be able to resume normal day-to-day activities within a week.
• Make sure to schedule an appointment with your doctor; preferably within 2 weeks post surgery.

Alert your doctor immediately if you experience: severe fever, loss of blood, pus coming out of any incision, nauseous feeling, lack of appetite, persistent pain etc.
