Haemorroids occur when the blood vessels around your anal region and lower rectum become swollen. It is a result of putting extra pressure on these blood vessels. Haemorrhoids can either occur inside your anus or under the skin around your anus.
Haemorroids are common in both men and women. Women are likely to experience a haemorrhoid condition during their pregnancy and child birth. Pressure of carrying a baby in the uterus can put strain on the blood vessels present in the pelvic area. Similarly, when a pregnant lady pushes her baby out while giving birth, there is an extra pressure on these blood vessels.
Internal or external haemorroids can be surgically removed using haemorroidectomy surgery. Surgical removal of haemorroids is the most effective treatment.
A Haemorroidectomy Surgery can be performed using various techniques and methods. Types of haemorroidectomy include:
- Closed Haemorroidectomy
This procedure includes excision of haemorroidal bundles with the help of sharp instruments like scalpel, scissors along with electrocautery, or sometimes laser followed by wound closure with absorbable suture.
- Open Haemorroidectomy
Procedure of this surgery is similar to that of a closed surgery except, here the incision is left open.
- Stapled Haemorroidectomy
This surgery mechanism is newly introduced for internal haemorroids treatment. It involves circular stapling device to excise the circumferential ring of excess haemorroid tissues, lifting it back to their normal position within the anal canal.
- Rubber band Litigation
A rubber band is placed at the base of the haemorroid which is present inside the rectum. The band is suppose to cut off the circulation, making the haemorroids wither away within a few days.
- Lateral Internal Sphincterotomy
Lateral Internal Sphincterotomy or opening of the inner anal sphincter muscle method is performed during haemorroidectomy.
