The patient is injected with a local anesthetic before the surgeon commences Haemorrhoidectomy surgery. The surgeon then opens and stretches the anus. The hemorrhoids are then severed off using diathermy, which involves passing high frequency electrical currents for heating muscular tissues. Blood flow and tissue repair happens as a result of applying heat to the muscular tissue. The duration of this surgery is around 45 minutes.

Post operative care taken during recovery period is very important for making the surgery effective:

• Pain killers - the doctor may prescribe over-the-counter medication to reduce pain.
• Stool softener - The doctor may also prescribe stool softeners to prevent strain on anal area during bowel movement as strain can aggravate pain.
• Diet high on fiber - Foods that are high on fiber content like vegetables, cereals, fruits, orange juice,fruit salads and other such foodstuffs are recommended by doctors.
• Sitz bath - A sitz bath facilitates pain relief to the bowel area as it involves soaking that region while squatting.
• Exhaustive activities - Rigorous physical activities and exertion should be restrained from for at least 6 weeks post surgery.
• Plenty of fluids - make sure to drink plenty of water and healthy fluids so as to avoid dehydration and constipation.
